They arise because actors\u2019 interests in natural resources are often incompatible. Specific interests (mainly national economic interests) are often given primacy at the expense of others (for example, local wellbeing).<\/p>\n<p class=\"yunu3cvqabft7vifv\">The Broker\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrokeronline.eu\/dossiers\/power-dynamics-and-natural-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Power Dynamics and Natural Resources\u2019 dossier <\/a>has been produced in cooperation with the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research \u2013 WOTRO Science for Development (\u2018NWO-WOTRO\u2019) programme, \u2018Conflict and Cooperation over Natural Resources in Developing Countries (CoCooN)\u2019. It aims to unravel the power dynamics underlying both \u2018open\u2019 and \u2018hidden\u2019 conflicts over natural resources, and to identify clear policy recommendations for policymakers and practitioners in the field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yunu3cvqabft7vifv\">The dossier contains five case-study articles provided by CoCooN researchers, and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrokeronline.eu\/articles\/the-tragedy-of-the-deprived\/\" target=\"_blank\">analytical overview<\/a> of these case studies by The Broker. These articles be found in the left column of this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrokeronline.eu\/dossiers\/power-dynamics-and-natural-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\">dossier page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yunu3cvqabft7vifv\">Together with these case studies, we have launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebrokeronline.eu\/blogs\/power-dynamics-and-natural-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\">debate<\/a> on the topic, which you can find in the centre column of the dossier page. We call on our readers to further examine the main question addressed by the dossier:<i>&nbsp;What are the power dynamics underlying disputes over natural resources and how can the escalation of potential conflicts be prevented? <\/i>The debate, however, specifically aims to go beyond analyzing the complexities surrounding resource-related conflict resolution. By involving stakeholders in conflict-prone countries we aim to identify \u2018windows of opportunity\u2019 for change in the context of the global political economy. <i>What can be done (globally, nationally and locally) to eradicate the root causes of natural resource conflicts?<\/i> Contributions can focus on particular cases or specific conflict-prone regions, or be more general in
