He was previously chair of the Department of IDS. His research has focused on Canada\u2019s role in sub-Saharan Africa, including development assistance, human security, multilateral diplomacy and extractive industries; post-apartheid South Africa in Africa; and sport and world politics. He is the author of numerous articles, chapters and edited collections on these subjects.
