In 2006 he obtained his PhD with a study in Bolivia on how to motivate farmers to invest in soil conservation practices. He is currently employed at the Soil Physics and Land Management group of Wageningen University, and is mainly involved in research projects and teaching on socioeconomic and policy aspects of sustainable land management.
