Based in the Philippines, she works on social and environmental justice issues such as land and agrarian reform, water, and the role of international financial institutions (e.g. World Bank, Asian Development Bank) in the privatization of public utilities and natural resources. Mary Ann\u2019s work includes development policy and action research, campaigning and advocacy, and grassroots capacity building as well as documentation of the responses of social movements and broader civil society including alternatives mapping and building. She has published numerous articles, chapters and reports on agrarian reform in the Philippines, water privatization, democratization and alternatives, and gender and development, among other topics. Her recent writing includes a chapter co-authored with Buenaventura Dargantes and Cheryl Batistel, titled \u201cSprings of Hope: Alternatives to Commercialization of Water Resources and Services in Asia\u201d, in the book Alternatives to Privatization Public Options for Essential Services in the Global South, David A. McDonald and Greg Ruiters (eds.), Routledge: Routledge Studies in Development and Society series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yunu3cvqabft7vifv\">Mary Ann has a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Sociology and is finishing her Master&#8217;s Degree in Women and Development Studies at the University of the Philippines.
