He is co-director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/aboutkings\/worldwide\/global\/intdev\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">King\u2019s International Development Institute<\/a> at King\u2019s College London, a new institute <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/aboutkings\/worldwide\/initiatives\/global\/intdev\/about\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">focused on the emerging economies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yunu3cvqabft7vifv\">Sumner is an interdisciplinary development economist with research interests in the fields of global poverty, economic development, and inequality with reference to middle-income countries and emerging economies. His primary regional focus is Southeast Asia, Indonesia in particular.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yunu3cvqabft7vifv\">Before taking his position at King\u2019s college, he was a research fellow at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom.
