Anthony Turton holds a Professorship in environmental management at the University of the Free State<\/a> with a PhD from the University of Pretoria. His core academic skills are focused on the management of transboundary water resources. He is the immediate past Vice President of the International Water Resources Association<\/a> (IWRA) and previously served as a Deputy on the Board of Governors of the World Water Council. He serves as Editor of the scientific journal\u2019s Water International and Water Policy, and serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Water Resource Development, Water Alternatives and the International Journal of Water Governance.  He previously served as a Fellow in the Natural Resource and Environment unit at the CSIR where he drove the water program. He is a Director of a company called TouchStone Resources (Pty) Ltd, and is working in the mining sector, most notably around the development of strategic level interventions arising from water constraints to current and future operations. He was part of the technical team that developed the first risk assessment methodology for infrastructure exposed to the hazard of AMD plumes. Professor Turton is the author of a number of books and scientific papers, including \u201cShaking Hands with Billy\u201d that deals with the birth of our democracy. He is the recipient of the Nick Steele Memorial Award as Environmentalist of the Year 2010 for his work on Acid Mine Drainage; and the Green Globe Award for Environmental Activism 2012 given in recognition of his work with mining companies developing appropriate responses to their Acid Mine Drainage problems. <\/p>\n
